Wait Until Dark

The Final Student Directed Winter Show was Wait Until Dark. Directed by Maya Aizenman, The cast of the show had a great time working on it and yes there were ups and downs but together they all got through it and the show turned out to be amazing. We hope the talents displayed by these actors will continue to be displayed

Susy Hendrix is a blind Greenwich Village housewife who becomes the target of three con-men searching for the heroin hidden in a doll, which her husband Sam unwittingly transported from Canada as a favor to a woman who has since been murdered. "Roat" leads his companions into thinking that they are going to be rich and will get the heroin soon enough, but in the end he murders all of his partners after they outlive their usefulness.

The trio try to convince Susy that her husband will be suspected of murdering the woman, and the only way to protect him is to give them the doll, which connects him to her. Little do the men know that Gloria, a little girl in the upstairs apartment, has stolen the doll after finding out it was not a gift for her.

One of the men poses as Sergeant Carlino, a strange police detective, while another poses as Mike, an old friend of her husband dropping by for a visit. Susy relies on "Mike", and he eventually begins to feel sympathy for her.

"Roat" poses as both the elderly Mr. Roat and his "son", Roat Junior. Roat Senior ransacks Susy's room and steals a wedding photo from the bedroom. He threatens Susy's and her husband's well being, so she calls the police. Her call is intercepted by "Mike", and Susy is visited by "Sergeant Carlino".

Gloria returns and admits her theft of the doll, and Susy hides it. Susy contacts "Mike" to ask for help now that the doll is found. Gloria has been watching the nearby phone booth used by the con-men, and she alerts Susy that all four of the men she has been dealing with are tricking her. Susy sends Gloria to meet her husband on his way home from work, and begins planning to handle the intruders.

Roat kills both of his partners after the men discover Susy has the doll in the apartment. He spills gas around the apartment to destroy any evidence.

Susy turns off all the lights so that "Roat" cannot see her. "Roat" uses matches to see until Susy douses him with the gasoline. He uses the refrigerator light to see, threatens Susy, and tries to kill her. She ultimately defeats "Roat".

Sam bursts in with the police and finds that Susy has already dealt with Roat. He sees that Mike is also dead. Gloria yells at the police when they appear too patronizing to Susy, and defends Susy's ability to take care of herself. After the police leave, Susy and Sam embrace.

The Bold The Young and The Murdered

The Second Student directed Winter Show was The Bold, The Young, and the Murdered. Directed by Jonah Spitler, He tried his hardest to get it done in the time frame given and it turned out spectacular. The Actors were amazing on stage and we hope to continue see them make amazing progress in the world of. Acting.

The long-running soap opera The Bold and the Young is in its last days: its hunky hero has self-esteem issues, its villainous old man is more interested in soup, and its heroines are slightly psychopathic. The executive producer gives the squabbling cast an ultimatum: Complete one episode overnight or the show dies. But when the director ends up murdered, and other cast members start dropping like flies, it seems like his threat might actually come true. Can these misfits discover the murderer before the show is literally killed off?

The Innocents

During the Student directed Winter Shows, The Innocents was put on directed by AMP's Phil Wilkerson. He did a good job directing the play and with coordinating the child actor who was involved. We hope to see more plays of this strong and beautifully directed stature in the future.

The Innocents is a play written by William Archibald that premiered on Broadway in 1950 and was revived in 1976. The play is based on the novel The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The play takes place in 1880 in the drawing room of an old country house in England. A new governess, Miss Giddens, arrives to look after the orphaned brother (age 12) and sister (age 8), who are "The Innocents". The household also employs a cook, Mrs. Grose. The spirits of the former valet, Peter Quint, and governess, Miss Jessel, haunt the house.

AMP Winter Gala

At the end of the First Semester, Our AMPians  had their annual Winter Gala. We are so proud to have so many talent students in our amp academy creating such beautiful works of art. At this Gala artists were able to show off their skills and what they could do with their talents. We had Art that could be sold, created by our own students, Live Musicians, Live Paintings, Food and Beverages and More Art on display. All of the art that was sold benefits the AMP Academy greatly and will continue to benefit the Academy for our future students.

William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead

Shakespeare's Land of the Dead, Directed By Alicia Welch and Maya Aizeman, was a huge success here at Monterey High. The Actors had a good time acting and the audience had a good time laughing. This comedy was filled with references of Shakespearean plays and comedy to make your stomach hurt.

      London, 1599.

Shakespeare's Henry V opens in the Globe Playhouse, but while the actors strut and fret, an excess of bile plagues the populace outside. After opening his newest play, William Shakespeare must once again defend his work - fending off the embittered clown Will Kemp while trying to appease Francis Bacon, a wealthy lawyer who has come with an idea to pitch, but when the company costumer is bitten by a plague-ridden madman, and the Queen and her men arrive seeking safety, life in the playhouse takes a turn for the worse. As the affliction spreads through London, the Globe is placed in quarantine and the survivors within must fight for their lives. Can they escape? Is there a cure? Is artistic Integrity ever worth dying for? A true and accurate account of Elizabethan Zombie Plague.

Adobe MAX 2017

The AMP director, Kathleen Bellesiles has attended Adobe MAX - The Creativity Conference in Las Vegas.

The Adobe MAX  is an annual event held by Adobe Systems in North America, Europe and Japan. The purpose of the event is to promote the latest Adobe releases to those in the computer design and development industries. The event also announces the winners of the Adobe MAX  Award. Our lovely Ms. Bellesiles had the honor of taking part in it to see famous artists put their work on display for all those who attended to see. This should inspire our AMPians to work harder on their computer graphic designs so that they too will one day be acknowledged as a famous artist.

Legion of Honor Museum

The Legion of Honor (formerly known as The California Palace of the Legion of Honor) is a part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The name is used both for the museum collection and for the building in which it is housed. The Legion of Honor displays a collection spanning more than 6,000 years of ancient and European art and houses the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in a neoclassical building overlooking Lincoln Park and the Golden Gate Bridge.

For the AMPians, going on this trip means that they could learn more about the styles artists used in the past and how they could apply it to modern day art that they make in their own artworks. Many of them enjoyed this trip and some even said that they wanted to or that they were going to visit the museum again in the future!

West End Celebration

The West End Festival is a chance for artists in the Monterey Bay Area to show off the things they made and sell them as a means to make more and keep pursuing their passions in life. For the AMPians this was a perfect opportunity for them to show off what they have created in order to make more money not just for themselves but for the academy itself. Selling their artwork and being acknowledged for their hard work is a big step for the AMPians and encourages them to going down the career pathway they're going.
